Profile

The role of the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is to make sure that industries based on natural resources are developed in a way that is sustainable in relation to those resources. This includes the protection of land and water resources and the conservation of natural and cultural heritage values in a catchment area encompassing 2.4 million hectares, about 17% of Victoria.

Speciality

The CMA fosters the integration of catchment management and sustainable use of land and water resources through the co-ordination of Government and community action, implementation of catchment strategies and advice to Government.

The CMA works closely with relevant agencies and authorities in the execution of its responsibilities under the Water Act 1989 and the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994.

The primary focus of the CMA is to ensure the sustainable use and wise management of the natural resources on public and private land. To pursue this the CMA will deliver quality services and resource based services with a specific client focus.

The CMA focuses on man's use and management of public and private land to maintain the productive capacity of the soil, the yield and quality of the water and to protect the land and ecosystems from damage due to vertebrate and plant pests. In partnership with the community, the CMA strives to halt and reverse land and water degradation and hence improve Victoria's competitiveness and attractiveness.
