| Profile | The Co-op membership comprises private growers of timber in North East Victoria. There are more than 40 members with woodlot area collectively in excess of 1200Ha. Trees are aged from 1 to around 25 years and are predominantly radiata but with some younger plantations of eucalypts. Co-op's activity is primarily directed at identifying and gaining access to sales outlets for the timber from members' plantations, and to provide improved returns that individual growers could not secure themselves. The Co-op has developed skills in harvesting small woodlots taking attention to maximising yield from falled trees and site tidiness in accordance with the Code of Forest Practices. The Directors of the Co-op are active in the promotion of farm forestry for commercial purposes and are represented on various interest groups promoting forestry in NE Victoria. - Professional forestry advice for plantation establishment, maintenance and harvesting; - Assessment of woodlot yields, returns and management; - The Co-op holds an informative field day annually. |

| Profile | Plantations North East Inc. A Regional Plantations Committee for North East Victoria. Plantations North East Inc was established in December 1996 to facilitate the development of commercial timber plantations and become a focal point for investment within the plantation industry, including farm based plantations. The objective of the Committee is to facilitate the expansion and development of commercial timber plantations and the associated timber industry in the North East of Victoria. Activities shall include, but not be confined to, those which will: - Promote the expansion of softwood and hardwood commercial plantations in the North East of Victoria; - Promote the expansion of farm forestry as a means of increasing wood supply from the North East of Victoria; - Support and assist the timber industry; - Develop the regional infrastructure which is integral to developing and maintaining an efficient timber industry; - Promote community understanding of the timber industry, including its contribution to economic and social development, and the environment; - Liaise with all levels of government to promote an empathy with the timber industry and to remove current and potential impediments to plantations expansion. |

| Profile | The Victorian Association of Forest Industries (VAFI) is the peak industry association representing hardwood, timber processors, pulp paper manufacturers and logging transport contractors. VAFI's major activities include: - representing the interests of its members in negotiations with governments in relation to resource security, resource availability and conditions of wood supply; - assisting members in industrial relations issues, training programs and occupational health and safety programs; - promoting public awareness of the role, activities and benefits of the forest industries; VAFI is affiliated with the National Association of Forest Industries (NAFI) which provides a national focus for Australia's forest industries. |
