Ltd (formerly Gippsland Forest Management Services trading as Forest & Natural Resource Services) aims to provide plantation growers and managers with access to a fully integrated range of services associated with plantation establishment and management. The requirements of the FFORNE are such that our plantation establishment practices, systems and equipment have undergone continual refinement and development to ensure the most cost effective establishment can be achieved over a range of site conditions. Ecosystems Management has a current full time staff of eight personnel with both professional and technical expertise in natural resource management, operating from offices in Benalla and Bairnsdale. Jack Gittins is a forester with over 40 years experience in commercial forestry and environmental management. He established W.J. Gittins & Associates Pty Ltd in 1971 to provide consulting services in natural resource management, and has since undertaken over 100 assignments involving forest management, inventory, environmental planning, environmental audit, land use planning , mining rehabilitation and revegetation, agro-forestry, vegetation assessment, watershed management, and in many cases utilises his specialised skills in aerial photography, photo interpretation, and remote sensing. He is retained by Federal and State Government Departments, Municipal and Semi-government Authorities, public companies, private companies, other organisations, and individuals. From time to time Jack Gittins has been engaged on international projects in the South-east Asia, Asia, PNG, Africa and Pacific Islands for the World Bank, Asian Banks, AUSAID, and UNDP. He has also acted as expert witness in forestry and environmental disputes before the Supreme Court, Victoria, other courts, and at hearings before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Jack Gittins is part-owner and/or forestry manager for 1150 hectares of softwood and hardwood plantations responsible for marketing of sawlogs, small roundwood, residue wood and other timber products, negotiating sales, management of harvesting, plantation planning and thinning regimes, establishment and re-establishment, fertilising, protection, road and track construction in Victoria, NSW, and SA. He is also part-owner and Managing Director of a hardwood sawmilling company at Mansfild, Victoria which produces quality timber for the furniture, joinery and housing markets. Jack Gittins is well regarded in environmental fields and has been engaged for environmental audits of forest operations for major forestry companies requiring detailed investigations relating codes of forest practice and other forest regulations to forest practices in the field. He has also provided environmental advice for 16 major mine and industrial developments throughout Australia.
